Just when I thought the evening was winding down, Heather tells me there is one more card for me to read. It was after 9pm, and I had been thinking about how cool it would be to end the day with a late night movie. Turns out, that’s exactly what she had planned! We headed back toward NRH for a late night showing of The Fountain, starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. The movie was great, though I’m still trying to figure it out. A lot of symbolism and mysticism involved. All in all, It was an excellent day. Heather put a lot of thought into making it unique and special to us. Of course, I got to enjoy the surprises, but she really enjoyed putting it together and experiencing my response to every surprise. This day definitely makes it into our hall of fame.

After a good 2 hour nap, we groomed ourselves fastidiously for the next event. The next card was dessert at Old Hickory Steakhouse in Grapevine. Located inside The Gaylord Texan, this steakhouse is where Heather and I spent our 1 year anniversary. It was great to return 2 years later and enjoy amazing desserts and champagne. Their lemon cannelloni won the award for best dessert in DFW for 2004. Mmmmm…..

We ate our favorite deli sandwiches - The Reuben - and headed home for a nap. The next card was postponed because of the weather. She had planned for her mom to meet us at a park in Southlake or Colleyville and take some photos of us. It was too cold and we were tired anyway, so we headed home for a nap.

I opened my next card to discover that we were on our way to the movies!!!! We went to see Deja Vu, one of the films I’ve been wanting to see most for months! The movie was great, and it was time for the next card! The opened card gave me directions to eat on Grapevine Highway. I followed the directions, trying to figure out which place we were going to. Turns out they built a new McAllisters Deli by the Hometown Starbucks!!!! That deli has been our favorite up in Edmond, Oklahoma for almost a year. Heather rocks!

As we wrapped up our time at Target, I found a pair of sunglasses I had to have while Heather searched for earrings.

On to the next phase!!!

We’re still at Target. I want to show the pics. We didn’t get as many pics everywhere else as we did at Target, so this has to make up for it. Here we are roaming the aisles, trying to figure out why Target shoppers, though still somewhat resembling the underground Morlocks, are generally so much better looking than Wal-Mart shoppers.

Heather wouldn’t have tried on much of anything if I hadn’t grabbed a bunch of shirts off the rack that I knew she’d look hot in. I have a much more accurate notion of Heather’s hotness than she does. She’s smokin!!!!

The party isn’t quite as exciting when she asks me to do a fashion show with all the shirts I tried on. I missed an opportunity for some fabulous poses. I’ve removed the pics because I hate the way they look.
We went back and forth from the men’s department to the women’s and back to the dressing room. Do any other guys find it slightly insulting that men get a tiny little portion of the store and women’s clothing takes up a warehouse?

Heather tried on just about every hat in the men’s clothing section. Not sure if she was considering any, but she sure looked hot in most of ‘em!

Phase 1:
To begin the day, Heather prepared one of my favorite breakfast dishes from childhood. I showered and we then hopped into the car to see what we would see.

Phase 2:
I opened card number 2 to find a gift card for the two of us to spend at Target!!!! You can do pretty well with a good sized gift card at Target, believe me. We spent most of our time at Target looking at clothing and accessories. We planned on checking out some CDs, but never made it there. We had too much fun trying on clothes! Turns out that Heather has a thing for hats! Who knew?

Saturday the 27th was our wedding anniversary. The night before, Heather was locked up in our home office for hours, doing something related to our anniversary celebration. She wouldn’t give me any details, except that she had the whole day planned. It was a rare occasion to sit back and enjoy the anticipation of a surprise.
We woke up early on Saturday and watched an old favorite teen movie, Can’t Hardly Wait. Heather then presented me with my anniversary card. It is the card of all cards, for in it lay the day’s adventures and activities.

More photos to come…

Heather and I had a wonderful anniversary. We took lots of pictures, and as I uploaded them to the laptop last night, I realized that digital cameras aren’t very forgiving. Let’s face it: they’re down right rude. They do not cover blemishes or forgive leftover crumbs. After seeing myself in these photos, I fear that I must hire an image consultant to redeem myself. Either that or a personal trainer.
A photo journal of our day is on the way. Looking back, I regret that I didn’t take pictures of the places we went, to serve as chapter headings. Oh well. Guess we’ll have to live with pictures of ourselves!
Honestly, Heather is a doll! I cannot believe my supreme luck at landing a hottie like her! This only leads me to wonder: what the heck was she thinking?!?!?!
