5 Online Music Players You Have to Experience

Posted on 29 February 2008 by Erin Kennedy

WinampIf music came in liquid form, I would shoot it directly into my veins.  So the day I stumbled upon web radio was a joyus moment for me.  It wasn’t so much a syringe of music as much as it was an IV of music.  A constant influx of new music.  I think I just drooled a little.  Since then, I’ve found several jackpots for music addicts to get their fix.  If you are constantly looking for music to pour into your veins then these are the websites I would suggest:

Marketing Tips for Self-Publishers

Posted on 28 February 2008 by Bobby Ozuna

bookLast week I elaborated on some general points to consider when releasing your own title. Naturally, if you read through the list, you are aware of the possibility [that] there are more steps vital to successful publication than originally noted on my previous article. However, in order for me to cover everything you should know it would take a book length manuscript not a weekly column to cover everything. So, I noted some key points to consider and offered some insight into approaching those steps. This week we will cover the second part to this particular article: the Post-Publication concepts.

Reputation Watchdog Coming Soon?

Posted on 27 February 2008 by DanielthePoet

Reputation Watchdog logoI'm so in love with this logo, I had to show it off. And before some designer decides to educate me, I've already been informed that it violates the principles of design 101 by not limiting itself to a maximum of four colors. Deal with it.

Yes, Reputation Watchdog is coming soon, though how soon has yet to be determined. It will benefit the growing online reputation management industry, which is a combination of SEO and PR for the Web. I'm sure many of you are wondering what the heck "online reputation management" is. Put simply, reputation management is PR and guarding your image/reputation online, where anyone can say anything about you in thousands of different venues. Each of these negative statements about you can cost you that new job, a quality new hire, a client, or potentially thousands of customers and millions of revenue.

There are plenty of places you can read more about the ORM industry, such as here and here and here

Credit goes to the ever awesomer Ben Jordan for creating and enhancing my logo vision.

Movie Review: The Bucket List

Posted on 27 February 2008 by Ashleigh Holmes

The Bucket ListEven though I appreciate Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as actors, this was one of those films that I could have waited to see on DVD, but when my friend wanted to go see it for her birthday, I acquiesced.

Jack Nicholson plays Edward Cole, a contemptible old man who, to quote one of my favorite all-time movies and characters, "has more money than God."  Edward becomes a patient in one of his own hospitals when he's diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Continue Reading

Put THAT in Your Twitter!

Posted on 26 February 2008 by DanielthePoet

TwitterIf you're not among the ranks of the hardcore Twitterers, you're on the outside looking in. It's that simple. Honestly, I don't know why I'm writing this post, as it serves me better if all of you DON'T join. The moment Twitter becomes as popular as MySpace, we'll all be moving on to the next best thing.

What is Twitter?
Twitter is a web application that you can access at www.Twitter.com. You join and create a small profile. Then you search for whatever or wherever interests you and you start following other users who share the same interests or specific geographic locations.

Is Twitter a dirty word?
Of course not. A Twitter is a beautiful thing, and a terrible thing to waste. Clear as mud?

Posted on 26 February 2008 by Michael Callaway

Thumbs up"Thank-you!  Thank-you everyone!  My name is Bob and I want to be the next President of the United States of America!

"Let us look at the name Bob, it does not matter if you write it backwards, you still get Bob.  It does not matter if you take the last letter and switch it with the first letter, you still get Bob.  It does not matter if you turn it upside down, make it backwards and look in a mirror…you still get Bob.  Take it, flip it up in the air, shake it, mix it all around, you will still get Bob!! 7 Tips for Enhancing Your Calm

Posted on 25 February 2008 by DanielthePoet

Enhance your calm.If you're like me, you have moments when anxiety creeps up on you, jumps on your back, and tries to wrestle you to the ground. Moments when employers are evaluating the quality of your work, when you're interviewing for a job and you have to find out who thinks you are valuable and who doesn't and why. Not to mention relational mishaps and various other life situations.

How do you handle anxiety? Everyone's different. Me? I have a very hard time shifting gears once anxiety has set in. I don't do pills or professional therapy, so that leaves me with more natural / do it yourself types of coping. Let's take a quick look at some ways I overcome anxiety:

Oscar Recap

Posted on 25 February 2008 by Ashleigh Holmes

2008 Academy AwardsI was pretty proud of my predictive abilities for last night's 80th Annual Academy Awards.  Except of course when the Best Picture award was announced.  My dog skulked around for at least 10 minutes after my outburst because usually outbursts like that are because she's peed on the floor, not because No Country For Old Men won for Best Picture.  I didn't realize how vehemently I didn't want it to win until it won.  Even though There Will Be Blood was obviously my favorite, I found that I would have been happy with any other nominee winning.  I just don't get the genius that is the Coen brothers.  Oh well…moving on… Continue Reading

Batman vs Daredevil

Posted on 23 February 2008 by Nicholas Johnson

Batman vs DaredevilIn the world of comics, you have a bunch of small companies and two big players. We all know who they are. Everybody is familiar with the characters. Of course, I am talking about DC and Marvel. DC is the driving force behind Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. Marvel has their share of heavy-hitters with Spider-Man, the (Incredible) Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. Both companies are riding high on massive waves of successful franchises. Each company’s characters have a counterpoint within the other company, excluding Spider-Man and the Green Lantern(s).

So Long, Dr. Pepper! Hello, 5-Hour Energy!

Posted on 22 February 2008 by DanielthePoet

5-Hour Energy DrinkTwo whole years now, I've been loathing myself every time I drink a Dr. Pepper. I hate it. I love it. Some days I must have it. Oh the exquisite pleasure and the pain. Just yesterday, Sesparza told me about an article she read that one soda per day = 15lbs of weight gain per year. This is seriously not good news for the man. Weight gain has been the bane of my existence since I quit smoking back in 2005. Extra snacks, sodas, and Starbucks took the place of 20 cigarettes a day.

Music Review: Tiger Lou

Posted on 22 February 2008 by Erin Kennedy

Tiger LouI stopped listening to country music about the time that they took the line “You complete me” straight out of Jerry McGuire and turned it into a soulless, chart-seeking twaddle of a country song.  I turned to alternative rock just about the time Nirvana was leaving its pulsing red handprint on the face of mainstream rock.  I remember being struck by the lyrics coming from the angst-filled musicians.  They were, at different times, poetic, tragic, poignant, and controversial.  They weren’t pandering to the mainstream, whoring out their talents with trite lyrics and unremarkable melodies; they were actually trying to say something – about the state of society, the state of mind, or the state of their own tortured souls.
