I started this week with the peculiar taste that a visit to the Trinity United Church of Christ web site left in my mouth.
Anybody can worship the way they like. This is America. But if someone is going to represent me, I need to understand the way my Potential Chief Representative worships every Sunday since that will inevitably influence the way he's going to represent me as a voter.
Some of the things that I saw among the "10 Points of Vision" that the Church has listed (http://www.tucc.org/about.htm) gave me reason to ponder:

In spite of my evolved and liberated nature as a woman of the 21st century, I L-O-V-E LOVE the proverbial "chick flick." Love them! Can't stay away from 'em. Even when I tell myself that a logical, rational and well-established woman of my status shouldn't waste her time on such drivel, I still find myself smiling like the village idiot at some silly love story that could never happen in real life. Or could it? I think that's what keeps me going. The naïve, childish hope that the "fairy tale" really is possible.
So naturally, I was drawn to 27 Dresses for the storyline alone, but then they had to go and put Katherine Heigl in it as Jane, who takes the adage, "Three times a bridesmaid, never a bride," to an all new level. I L-O-V-E LOVE Katherine Heigl too. Most of my friends who adore Grey's Anatomy as much as I do love Meredith or Cristina, but I just can't get enough of Izzie; so I was thrilled to see that she was going to be in this. I loved David McCullough's biography of John Adams when it was first published a few years back. I still keep my autographed copy among my treasured collection of Special Books.
The 7-part HBO TV mini-series "John Adams" based on McCullough's work did not disappoint me. I'm a history buff. I watched the first two episodes on Sunday night (with a sheepish smile on my face, I'm afraid).
What really left an indelible mark on me the first time I read the book was not only the erudition of this Greek- and Latin-literate "farmer" couple but also the genuine love that John and Abigail Adams clearly had for each other. It's hard to come across such a headstrong, opiniated and yet definitely in-synch couple who addressed each other in their letters as "Dear Friend." The series captured that chemistry very well indeed. Continue Reading

It makes me sad that people can not have a reasonable debate about the two most important issues, politics and religion. I do not care what your views are, if you agree with me or not, what I like to see is someone who articulate and describe what they believe and why. Overall I would say I am a conservative Republican, however, to blindly follow one party is wrong.
I think that I am safe to say that both sides have their members that they are ashamed of, however, they need those people to be elected and as such they have to pander to them. You can find issues with any leader that you will disagree with, even the great Ronald Reagen. Continue Reading

As a single man of almost 6 years, I have had my share of experiences in the dating world. I’ve gone the usual routes of running up monster tabs at the bars, reading John Keats poetry at Barnes & Noble on a Sunday, and I got a dog just so I had a reason to go to the dogpark. I even plan my grocery shopping around the best nights to meet women at Central Market. I almost resorted to signing my daughter up for every sport possible just for the visibility. Luckily, I got wise before I had to spend a decade writing checks to cover her therapist bills.
By wise, I mean I was smart enough to click on a few different hyperlinks for internet dating. On the surface it would be easy to lump internet dating into one single entity, but that would be the equivalent of saying that hooking up with someone from the bar is the same as your mother fixing you up with a girl from her church. They just aren’t the same things. For those lacking real experience with what I call the multiple levels of internet dating ™ (I haven’t actually trademarked it….yet), allow me to expand.

When my friend recommended the Outlander to me through email, I thought, "Cool, maybe I'll get around to looking for it the next time I don't have anything to read." Then when I saw her over the holidays, I asked her to refresh my memory on the book that she had recommended. She lit up like she was on fire, and I knew immediately that I had to get this book ASAP.
I'm over fifteen years late in my adoration of the novel by Diana Gabaldon, but in my defense, when the book came out in 1991, I was only 10 years old, and although I was advanced for my age, I don't think I was quite that advanced.
When I found a copy at Half Price Books, it was in the romance novel section, but my friend assured me Continue Reading
