We’re only a single episode into the new season, and Lie to Me is already the clear Juggernaut. Not convinced? I have two words for you: TIM ROTH. Exactly. If you’re still unconvinced, watch this short intro to the show and see if it doesn’t peak your interest.
I cannot tell you how much this show is right up my alley. I’m one of those hyper-oberservant people who notices every twitch, every glance, and every nuance in one’s tone of voice. I’m no professional at discerning their meanings like the characters in this show, but I’m acutely aware that each little “microexpression” means something.
Most of you aren’t like me. You have other and better things to pay attention to in your daily lives. That’s fine. But don’t miss Lie to Me, no matter what. At the very least you’ll gain a little insight into the human condition. At best, you’ll find a fascinating new show (my wife would concur) that is just what the doctor ordered post-Inaugural Day frenzy.
Watch the entire first episode on Hulu, then come back and tell me I’m wrong. I dare you. But be warned. I’ll know if you’re lying.

It was different… but my vote on Best New Show is still open.
I think a better new show is FRINGE. With its cross between X-files & Twilight Zone & its dash of humor… AWESOME!
“It was different…” ha! At least you’re honest. FYI, I would definitely list Fringe as a great new show, but I was looking at new to 2009 for my criteria.
It seems like a dozen or more shows debuted in Fall 2008, and there were at least a couple winners.
Granted, the competition isn’t very fierce for new in 2009. Some silly reality shows, dancing shows, singing shows, etc. But Lie to Me is going to be one of “those” shows I enjoy for a long time.
Lie to Me fits into that category with House, Monk, Sherlock Holmes, Shark, and Life (maybe even CSI Miami, with the redheaded guy’s oddness).
I happen to enjoy shows focused on quasi-idiot savants (i.e. geniuses with “limited” social skills).
