Dogs are the new kids… at least in my circle. Dogs love you unconditionally, never cry or get colic, can be left home alone and don’t need a new pair of shoes five times a year. Sounds like a pretty good arrangement to me. So good, in fact, that I have three dogs of my own. And I do love my dogs like they’re my kids. Yep, I’m one of those people. I spend more money on my dogs than I do on myself.

There are many things in life I just don’t understand. I’m not talking about my lack of mechanical know how or trivial questions. I’m talking about aspects of human nature that are just beyond my understanding. One of those things is why do people buy or adopt pets they know nothing about and then after realizing how much work it is try to turn around and sell or rehome said animal.

For those of us in the northern hemisphere who are currently experiencing unprecedented levels of snowfall, it seems like the growing season is a hell of a long way off. Well, not really. In fact, the start of the growing season is only just around the corner. And there are so many reasons as to why you should make 2009 the year that you made the switch to growing your own fruit.

So first it was Hurricane Gustav and then it was Hurricane Ike. I must admit, I’m literally a weather fanatic and almost semi-addicted to weather; particularly when it’s severe. It seems, to me, that we’ve had some major weather in the last few months and it seems to be only getting worse and worse. I’m 31 years old and growing up, I seem to recall hurricanes only hitting Florida or the east coast. Doesn’t it seem, lately, that hurricanes always make a direct target of the Gulf Coast. I wonder why that is?
Hurricane Ike, albiet it wasn’t as dangerous as it was forecasted for Dallas, turned out to be quite a monster for the Texas coast. What is it with my fascination about weather? Maybe it’s because I grew up in Oklahoma for most of my life and we had at least four to five tornado warnings per Spring season. Maybe it’s the simplicity of knowing that humans have absolutely no control over the weather… or do we? (more…)
