CultureFeast versus MySpace

Posted on 05 February 2006 by Daniel Dessinger

I really need to get a digital camera. This only convinces me further. It's been a week since we returned from our Caribbean cruise and we still haven't gotten our pictures developed. I haven't gone through the hassle because we're going to use that Kodak Perfect Touch, where they send it to downtown Dallas or Houston for developing. I like Perfect Touch processing except for the fake blue eyes they give me half the time. They assume it's better than redeye, which is debatable.

If I'd used a digital camera, all my photos would have been uploaded to my computer on the first day back and I could show them off to you wonderful people.

I noticed that the content of this blog hasn't been very personal. Not like the MySpace blog was always especially profound, but I shared some extremely personal thoughts there. It was my way of revealing myself to the world.

CultureFeast just feels different, somehow. For one thing, I never invited a potential client to visit my MySpace page or read the blog. This one, however, is printed on my business cards. It is both a blog and a portfolio.

I'm still working the kinks out. It's going to be the next big thing, you know - writers who display themselves as honestly as they are comfortable on blogs which double as portfolios and business websites. For my vocation there is nothing more fitting.

I still need a little help getting over the hump of feeling inappropriate. Guess I picked up more of that dreadful soulless professionalism than I realized.
