Daniel, sorry for depressing you but this is the truth (as far as I could verify from multiple sources) about TRADITIONAL novel publishing AND making enough money at the same time; that is, making enough money to take care of one's family.

But it does not mean that that's the ONLY way to publish a novel. Actually that's what Bobby Ozuna is trying to establish in his very informative columns.

I think instead of hitting our heads against the hard brick and mortar of traditional publishing houses, we should all try publishing independently or try self-publishing or print-on-demand solutions (like Lulu.com) and let the traditional agents and publishers approach US.

There is a great transformation taking place in the publishing world these days, blowing away all past models and paradigms of authorship. We should all both keep writing and also keep looking around for alternative ways to reach the readers. Blogging and self-publishing are just two of those viable alternatives. But traditional publishing probably is not, at least for 90% of us. That's all I was trying to communicate as an author who is currently working on his 6th screenplay (none of them produced, yet).

You must be hell-bent on preventing me from writing a book. What does this series teach us? We're far better off blogging and building our online empires, and waiting to publish a book until we've established ourselves within an industry.

Great information to dash the hopes of millions of aspiring writers! Well done. ;)
