Oscar Recap

I was pretty proud of my predictive abilities for last night's 80th Annual Academy Awards. Except of course when the Best Picture award was announced. My dog skulked around for at least 10 minutes after my outburst because usually outbursts like that are because she's peed on the floor, not because No Country For Old Men won for Best Picture. I didn't realize how vehemently I didn't want it to win until it won. Even though There Will Be Blood was obviously my favorite, I found that I would have been happy with any other nominee winning. I just don't get the genius that is the Coen brothers. Oh well...moving on...
I squealed with delight when Daniel Day Lewis won! And could he be any more awesome in his acceptance speech? Love him!
In every other category in which I had a favorite, I was not disappointed. Diablo Cody won for her screenplay for Juno. Dario Marianelli won for his score for Atonement, and Javier Bardem won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Anton Chigurh in No Country For Old Men. You'll remember that he was the only part of the film that I actually liked.
I didn't actually see Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Bob Dylan in I'm Not There, but I was surprised that Tilda Swinton won for Best Actress in a Supporting Role instead of her. I think that Tilda Swinton was surprised too. Marion Cotillard was completely precious in her acceptance speech for her win for Best Actress in a Leading Role as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose. The make-up people won for the film too, which is a good thing, considering that I didn't even recognize Cotillard.
I haven't seen Once yet, but it's in my Netflix queue, and I'm pretty sure it's one of those with which I'll fall madly in love. I loved the acceptance speeches from Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. I especially loved that they let Markéta come back and have her say. I also thought it was pretty cool that they had some armed forces in Baghdad announce Best Documentary Short Subject. I loved Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway in their presentation for Best Animated Film, and Jon Stewart did a great job in his second showing as host.
Anybody else have any favorite or highly disappointing moments?

You know what? After a night to sleep on it, as I was driving into work this morning, I realized that I was ok with There Will Be Blood not winning. At least Daniel Day Lewis won for Best Actor, and honestly, the film wouldn’t have been near what it was without his genius behind it, but I’m still not happy that No Country For Old Men won…grrr…

Totally disagree. Though I missed the Oscars and I know I haven’t seen There Will be Blood Yet, I do get the genius of the Coen brothers and thought that movie was AWESOME! So yay, I’m glad it won.

I was hoping the Transformers would win something and was sad that they did not. I thought John Stewart did a great job of making it fun.

I was surprised by how much the Bourne Ultimatum won as far as sound editing, etc. I really thought Transformers had a shot at those awards, even though I didn’t catch either film, but I guess Bourne really went out with a bang.

John Stewart made it all worth it.
