Last night I was watching the very first “Saturday Night Live”, it was the 1970’s so of course Ford was being made fun of. One of the slogans that they said that he would have is, “Hey, if I am so dumb, why am I the President?”
Looking back I think we can say that Jerry Ford really was not that bad as a President and given the situation at the time made some good decisions. We tend to say a President was great or terrible without looking at all factors. Two Presidents in particular that get generalized are Franklin Roosevelt and Richard Nixon.
