I’m sick and tired of those bleeding-heart liberals who defend the most abominable cultural institutions in the name of their “respect” for the “equality before the law.” That covers the presumed equality of all cultures, all social, ethnic and religious practices.

Their definition of democracy is respecting the “equality” of all social practices “before the law” – no matter what! For them this principle is elevated to the level of an untouchable fetish.

But can you name me ONE country which is not ruled according to laws? Why, even Saudi Arabia, North Korea, and “Democratic Republic of Congo” have “rule of law”, don’t they? So the KIND of law we’re talking about makes all the difference in the world, doesn’t it? Liberals don’t get that very simple point.

My point is this – an abstract respect for the “equality before the law” does not make any sense without looking at the outer framework of values, the “civilization” within which those laws are created, interpreted, and implemented.

That’s why chopping off the hands of a thief or the public-stoning to death of a woman who cheats on her husband are perfectly “legal” in Saudi Arabia but we in the West think they are horrendous acts of barbarism. Are we going to “respect” that just because it’s a Saudi law and pretend that there’s no difference whatsoever between medieval and modern law enforcement? Where do we stand on the historic evolution of human values? 7th or 21st century?

The blind liberal trumpeting of such “respect” for the equal treatment of all cultural traditions leads to supreme acts of folly like Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Rowan Williams defending the implementation of the Islamic Shariat law in those parts of England populated by fundamentalist Muslims.

Yes, we need to respect the laws and treat all equal but only if we’re first sharing the same civilization, the same general values about how we should lead our lives. Otherwise we end up CONDONING “honor killings,” polygamy, subjugation of women and children, “female circumcision”, gender inequality, and other inhumane values defended by other ethnic or national cultures.

Such guilt-ridden democracies start to molest their own enlightened values (equality, individual freedoms, etc.) while celebrating the very same collapse as a vindication and triumph of liberalism. A pity, a shame, and an evolutionary crime!

Something tells me Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s loss of the Vice Presidency may have also lost Bristol Palin a husband. Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol, and her fiancé, Levi Johnston, recently called off their engagement.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Levi said he isn’t mature enough for marriage at this point. Mature enough to father a child? Sure! Marriage? Heck no!

Bristol, 18, gave birth to the couple’s son, Tripp Easton Mitchell, on December 18, but during a fight two weeks ago, the couple called it quits. Levi, who is only 19, said the fight “turned into” a permanent separation for the pair. After all, that’s what teenagers do. They have a fight and break up.

I agree with Levi when he says he’s not mature enough for marriage. At 19, not many people are. I tried it myself at 19, and it lasted a miserable four years. But in my case, there weren’t any children involved (thank goodness, for both my sake and the sake of my fictional children). What I can’t seem to get around in the story, though, is that maturity is what Levi chose to callout when citing the reason for the breakup. Was the issue of maturity ever cited when he and Bristol decided to have and raise their baby?

I was never, and I mean, NEVER a fan of Sarah Palin. I don’t want to make this story about my political persuasion, but I can’t help but think Palin’s daughter never had a choice in the matter when it came to having and raising her child. I’m sure of it, in fact. After all, Sarah Palin said on a number of occasions that even if her daughter became pregnant through a rape, abortion still wouldn’t be an option. Ok, so abortion’s off the table… what about the millions of MATURE couples on waiting lists for adoptions?

When Good Morning America asked him about his new life as a parent, Levi said, “Yeah, [I'm] growing up a lot. So, it’s fun. It’s good times.” Not the words of a mature man.

I can’t help but feel bad for Bristol. If Mom were the country’s new VP, what are the odds that Levi would somehow find the maturity to marry her and be a part of the royal family?

The critics will say with the IRS reporting to the Treasury secretary it would be like the fox guarding the hen house. Others have suggested if he could not figure how to do his taxes how could he do a good job as Treasury secretary?

These issues are not really valid as to the qualifications of the man for the job; they do score political points for those who want to oppose Obama. The real question that should be asked is why is our tax code so complex that even someone as smart as Timothy Geitner could get it wrong?

This is a man that went to Dartmouth College and then later went to Johns Hopkins University. He has worked for the US Treasury Department, the International Monetary Fund, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and has been the Vice Chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee. If this is a man who can make a mistake on his taxes with the help of an accountant, what hope is there for a regular person?

I can plainly remember Clinton’s first inauguration. Part of the reason might be because my boss at the time was a huge supporter of his and wanted to rush home at lunch time so she could watch it. She invited me along and we sat in her living room eating BBQ beef sandwiches on TV trays while we watched Bill Clinton take the oath. Afterward, I remember admiring the cadence and eloquence of Maya Angelou’s voice as she read her poem she’d written just for the occasion.

Of course, when a president is re-elected, there isn’t quite as much pageantry as there is when a new man arrives in office. I don’t remember Clinton’s second inauguration and surprisingly, I don’t remember either one of Bush’s. I wondered why my mind couldn’t recollect any scenes from that time. Part of the reason might be that there was a lot of bitterness in the country when Bush won. There are some who still believe that Bush stole the 2000 election. With all the strife going on, maybe the inauguration was more subdued. Although I can’t imagine the Bush’s scaling back.

I do remember that when Bush was elected a second time, many in the media cried out, “How can we throw a big party when we have soldiers dying in Iraq and Afghanistan?” Or “How can we celebrate when the country is at war?” Well, this country is still at war and many are out of work and worried about paying mortgages and buying food. But yet there isn’t a hint of criticism anywhere in the media that we’re spending all this money on a one-day party that could be used to help the poor.

Don’t misunderstand me. Even though I didn’t vote for him, I thought the inauguration of Obama was beautiful and memorable and we should have a celebration. The inauguration of a new president is always a great reason to throw a party. (Even though I found Obama’s speech worrisome—The big government/nanny state is coming people.) I just think that the media shouldn’t apply a double standard when it comes to hailing our new leader.

Obama has made very solid cabinet picks and has said all the right things in his interviews. I look forward to his inauguration and expect it to be up there with the greats like Lincoln, Kennedy and Reagan. I am pleased to see that he has been balanced in his approach since becoming President – Elect and I look forward to watching the left become angry at him when he turns out not to be as radical as they thought he would.

That said, there is one way that I could be swayed from being simply loyal opposition to becoming a full blown Obamamanic. Now, the mission to earn my unwavering support will be difficult, as most missions to earn my unwavering support tend to be. Many have tried to conquer this dragon, all have failed.

Not only is the objective difficult, there are powerful forces that will fight this President of Change to maintain the status quo at all cost. As a general rule I do not believe in a vast conspiracy, this however is an exception to that rule. This vast collection of “they” are as greedy as they are sinister. Mr. Obama had better be careful when dealing with such a violent brewed as they.

Who is this challenger to the “Savior in White House”? Why it is the NCAA and the biggest fraud that has been perpetrated on the American people know as the Bowl Championship Series or BCS. Big time college football is the only sport where the ultimate champion is not crowned on the field of play but is won by lobbying sports writers into voting for your team over the “other guy”. It is a collection of whinny college presidents and selected conferences that feel like they are superior to everyone else.

While I am a huge fan of the Big XII (Sic’Em Bears!!!) and feel like Florida and Oklahoma probably were the two best teams, it was a complete shame that USC, Texas, and Utah all did not have a chance to make their claim as the national champion. This scam continues all because the NCAA says that a playoff can not be done.

Obama has said that he wants to see college football have an actual playoff, not sure if he wants a plus-one, top-eight or top-sixteen. I would be happy with anything other then the current system that we have. If Mr. Obama can make this happen then I will be ready to believe that maybe he can the other things that he promised too.

January 7, 2009

Oprah Winfrey is without a doubt one of the most powerful women in the world. With a whisk of her magic wand an unknown author can become a best seller. Like the old E.F. Hutton commercials used to say, when Oprah speaks, people listen.

In September of 2005 Oprah selected “A Million Little Pieces” to her Book Club. The story is a heart warming story about a man overcoming his addictions. The book was originally published in 2003 but became a best seller after it got the Oprah seal of approval.

The show was called, “The Man Who Kept Oprah Awake At Night”, Oprah talks about how the book was “like nothing you’ve ever read before”. At one moment a very emotional Oprah said, “I’m crying ‘cause these are all my Harpo family so, and we all loved the book so much.”

Sadly, the story turned out to be less truthful then Oprah had been lead to believe and the author of the book got a serious tongue lashing from the Queen of Day Time Television. Fool me once, shame on you.

In 2008 Oprah read the book, “Angel at the Fence”, an amazing story of how a young boy lived in a concentration camp during the Holocaust and how he met a young girl who gave him food to help him survive. The boy never saw the girl again, however a blind date in the 1950’s reunited the couple and it has been a world wind romance ever since. Oprah called it, “the single greatest love story…we’ve ever told on the air.”

There is an old saying, fool me once, shame on you….uuumm…fool me twice….ughh….well, let’s just say you are not going to fool me two times. Like “A Million Little Pieces” this story was also untrue. If the author is smart, he and his wife will not go back for a third time for the verbal beating that would await them.

It is safe to say that Oprah enjoys inspirational, heart warming, hope inspiring books that are based on lies. The kind of books that might feel like some big fairy tale with a whole choir of angels singing and with the words, “and they all lived happily ever after” at the end. But hey, who does not enjoy a good fairy tale?

Now, I am sure that some of you cynics out there may say, “If she can’t see through the lies in a book, how is it we should care about her endorsement for President?” I say, “Not so fast!” Sure, the parallels are there. I mean, she did get all misty-eyed when she talked about how Barak Obama is “The One”. And maybe it was a little uncomfortable to see her crying leaning on some strange man’s back during Obama’s victory speech. But trust me, she does a lot more vetting on what candidate she is going to give her unconditional support too then who she names as her book of the month.

Relax, we are not going to see Oprah get fooled for a third time with “Savior In The White House”. It is not as if they have this crazy notion that somehow Barak Obama will just come in and somehow the birds will sing better, the sun will shine brighter and a warm blanket of love will fall from the heavens wrapping us in a loving Obama embrace.

So while the parallels may be there, hope filled stories, impossible dream, the slogan of “Yes we can, we are the change that we seek”, “Savior In The White House” will not be a story line that Oprah will have to regret. However, if she does, I would not go back on the show Mr. President. Seriously. You don’t want that woman mad at you.

Sure, Rod Blagojevich may have tried to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder and I do not doubt that he and his wife are foul mouthed people. However, despite all of that, I think he should stay on has governor of Illinois and continue to serve the people who elected him, twice.

Now, some of you ninnies out there may say, “Hey, he is corrupt, he must go.” Sure he is corrupt, but he has a keen economic mind and in these tough times that is what we need. He was able to look at the situation he was in and realize that the thing that he had was worth a lot of money to someone that simply just give it away was foolish. That is an economic genius at work people!

It is this same practical mind that will be able to bring in more jobs to areas hard hit by manufacturing job losses. Some less economically savvy governor may not realize the financial impact of losing these jobs and could be willing to let them go for nothing. Not Rod, he knows that this is thing is bleeping golden and is going to work as hard as he can to get Illinois the full share that they deserve. Besides, if he can not take care of himself how is he supposed to take care of others? I ask you.

Also, we know the man must be a great leader, how else did he win the popular vote? Was it because of his name or his pretty boy hair? No it was not, the name Blagojevich is no Kennedy and that mop of hair makes The Donald look good. We know that in spite of all these hindrances he was able to rise above the fray and become the chef executive of one of the largest states in this great land of ours.

I would also like to thank the media for not using Rod as a way to disparage the good name of the Democratic Party. For example, whenever there was a story about Ted Stevens the story would always start off the same, “Embattled Republican Senator, Ted Stevens….”. It pleases me to see that the story about Rod Blagojevich is just about Rod and it is not about, “Embattled Democratic Governor, Rod Blagojevich…” I think the media has learned a valuable lesson here and they deserve our recognition for fairness and integrity.

So Rod, Mr. Blagojevich, you continue to keep doing what you believe is right, and if anyone tries to force you out, go nuclear and take them all down with you good sir.

While the GOP sure looked bad on Nov 4th, there is still hope that the Grand Old Party will not be completely dead in 2009. With the run off election victory of Saxby Chambliss over Jim Martin in Georgia and the possible victory of Norm Coleman defeating Al Franken in Minnesota, this will mean that the Republicans will have 42 Senators and will be able to use the filibuster if necessary.

For those of you who are not sure what the filibuster is let me give you a brief synopsis: In the House of Representatives there are rules of debate, how long the person can speak and how many speakers on an issue. These rules are agreed to before hand with the majority party getting the greater say in how those rules will be structured. After the debate is done, the bill has a vote and that is it. In the Senate it does not work that way, there can be unlimited amount of debate. One person can talk for hours and hours once he or she has been recognized and can defer to any college he or she wants.

The only way that the debate on an issue can come to an end is if 60 Senators vote to end the debate and go straight to a vote. During a filibuster, the side that does not have enough votes to get their way just keeps talking and talking. In fact, you do not even have to be talking about the issue being voted on. One time a Senator just stood up there and read names from a phone book. It is a delay tactic that keeps a bill from becoming a law.

Now, the filibuster itself is not a solution and right now we need solutions. What the filibuster will do is ensure that Republican ideas will be allowed at the table and provide a check to some more Liberal movements in the Democratic Party. Of course, the filibuster also gives the Democrats a built in excuse as to why they could not do all that they promised their constituents that they would do if elected. We should know, we used that same excuse for years when the Republicans controlled the Presidency, House and Senate. Even with all that GOP control, somehow those crafty Democrats were out there thwarting our grand plans.

In fact, during those years Republicans even tried to get rid of the filibuster, something I was adamantly against, I am sure they are glad that their plan was foiled by those crafty Dems now. Of course, had the Democrats really been crafty they would have foreseen a huge victory in 2008, they would have then let the Republicans win the battle of eliminating the filibuster, only to lose the war.

When the only thing that you have is the possibility of delaying laws that you do not like there is not much life, however, as we have seen with the Phoenix and its ashes, that is all we need. The forces of creative destruction will turn the Republican Party into a better party. We can rebuild it, we have the technology, we can make it stronger, faster, just like the “Six Million Dollar Man”, only in today’s politics we will need to upgrade that to six hundred million dollars.

Also, during the Democratic Primary I waited six hours to vote for Hillary Clinton twice, first in the primary and then in the caucus, something that still haunts me to this day (did I mention that my voter card is stamped Democrat?). My thought at the time was the devil that I know is better then the devil that I do not. It was also a concern that Senator Obama had not been a Senator for very long and before that was just a State Senator.

Now that the election has passed and the people have spoken it is time to support our new President. While I know that in the future I will have disagreements with the direction of the Democratic controlled Congress and the Democratic controlled White House, when those issues come up then I will explain why I am against those policies and what I think should be different. Until then, I am going to give the Obama team the benefit of the doubt and will wait and see what happens.

One point that makes me very proud to be a Republican is to see the way both John McCain and George Bush are working with the new President, compare that to 2000 with the approach of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. The Clinton White House was like a frat house with staff pulling out the W’s on key boards and Bill Clinton issued some questionable pardons (including Bill Ayers) and Al Gore being a sore loser. While the country may have rejected the message of the GOP I am glad to see that the men at the top choose to act with class and dignity, something that was missing eight years ago when the rolls were reversed.

Chances are I am going to vote for the Republicans in 2010 and for the Republican nominee in 2012. However, my hope for President Elect Obama is that he will govern from the center as he has said, that he will not over reach and try to force a Liberal agenda like Clinton did in 1993 and will not be as divisive as the current President has been. If he can bring Republicans into his administration and can do all that he promised then I will consider splitting my vote in 2012.

Written back in April, it’s obviously not a new post, nor has it recently been promoted by any Social Media Mongers (term coined here).

But why, of all times, would people be suddenly searching for political identity tests when they’ve clearly just voted for their top choice for leader of the free world? Isn’t it a bit soon for elector’s remorse? Something is clearly digging into the American psyche.

Obviously, all Americans are not searching for this identity test, and my above statement dramatizes the situation. But it’s noteworthy that ANYONE would be searching to know themselves so soon after the election.

The only way to learn more about this group of people is to go back and insert a poll. Hopefully, enough visitors will continue to visit this page and answer the poll so that we’ll have a better understanding of why this topic is suddenly so important. CultureFeast polls are still relatively new, but you can visit our Polls Archive to see ongoing results.

What do YOU think? Are you wondering where you REALLY stand on the issues? Do you know for sure whether you’re liberal or conservative? Are YOU experiencing elector’s remorse?

This gentleman is very obviously a Democrat, and he has taken quite a bit of time to make his political beliefs known. There is nothing wrong with this. He has every right to do so.

There were stickers ranging from the simple Obama/Biden stickers to heckling Palin to calling McCain the equivalent of a feather plucking cockatoo…and that isn’t a nice thing. It is great that this gentleman wants to express his political stance, and if he got my attention, it can safely be said that he got many other people’s too.

I found myself thinking I was kind of jealous that I didn’t have that on fire conviction for any candidate or party. I’m not a fan of either presidential candidate. I never really liked an of the possible candidates and while the election has seemed to be the topic everyone wanted to talk about , I wasn’t nearly as engaged. I’ve never voted a straight ticket. Like for Indiana Governor, our current Governor is a better choice when in regards to higher education.

I work for a statewide community college system, so it makes sense that I voted for him. He’s a republican, but that does not mean I’ll vote for that party all around. I thought about how I couldn’t wait until the election to be over so my only “team” loyalty will be to “Team Edward” and bringing back Blood Ties. As my mind started to wander…something even less unrelated to politics popped into my head. “Man it is going to be hell to get those stickers off.”

I looked a little closer…hoping the “stickers” were really magnets or stickers put on magnets. Some were but most of the stickers were actual stickers put on the back of the car. Ouch! I purposely only have my Guster widow cling and BLOG bumper magnet on the back of my car. I even conceded and put my “Corporate Goth: Because Nice Boots are Expensive” sticker on my laptop because I know how hard it is to get those suckers off. Well no, it isn’t hard to remove them. The issue is what will you do to your paint job in the process. You can carefully remove them and minimize the damage, but it is a lot of work and far from fool proof. When you go to sell that car, unless you pay for a new paint job, this could look bad.

Yard signs are easy to remove. You can stop wearing t-shirts, and the commercials and debates will soon be nothing but a distant memory (thank God!). However, this guy has to look forward to painfully removing each of those stickers. Well he could just leave them on. Now if Obama wins, it really isn’t a huge faux pas initially, but soon people are going to be over the whole election and want to move on. However, if Obama loses (mind you I’m writing this on election night…as I watch the election coverage) that could be a little more shady. I know my eyes automatically roll when I pull up behind that car with the Kerry/Edwards sticker slapped on the bumper.

Are political bumper stickers like a tattoo? They sound like a great idea at the time. You actually may still love them dearly, but maybe it isn’t what you want representing yourself to the world?

[poll id="17"]

Well it finally has happened, history has indeed happened. There was strong debate throughout the process, people feeling very passionate about the issues. There were a lot of ups and downs and while it was possible to see the outcome well before election night, I do not think anyone really knew what it would feel like until the numbers became final. This was indeed a historic election, one that will affect lives forever and one that we will always be talking about.

On Tuesday Nov 4th the voters had a choice and because of the freedom that we have in this country they made that choice and what a choice it was. The city of Roanoke had two bills on the ballot, one to allow alcohol to be sold in stores which barely lost, 789 against, 788 for. The other bill would allow alcoholic drinks to be sold in a restaurants and this easily passed 1094 to 497. Every vote was critical and…..

Wait! Was this not the historic election YOU were thinking of? Oh, you were thinking about the Presidential election. Well, in that case I can write about that too. The election of Obama is also a historic election and worthy being on the great blog of truth. The level of excitement for Obama is something that I have not seen in my life time.

Obama will have a tough task for the next four to eight years, war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Islamic terrorist that will still hate America regardless of who is President, and of course a slowing global economy and financial crises. Obama will have to deal with extremist in his own party and will have to find ways to work with Republicans too.

The thing that worries me the most is the amount of expectations that people have of Obama. Change does not come quickly and it is much easier to talk change then to actually do change. We will have a new President soon and I congratulate him on his victory and hope that he is right when he says “Yes we can”.

One thing I have observed during this Presidential election and by blogging in general is that there are people who are simply too crazy to debate. Now, I do not care if you are religious or not, if you are Conservative or Liberal, or if you believe global warming is man made or part of a natural cycle. What I like to see is someone who can articulate why they believe what they believe and will not get angry if you challenge them. I would rather have a fierce debate with someone I disagree with who is rational then talk with someone who agrees with me but is irrational.

No matter what your views are, it is possible that you or someone you know is simply too crazy to debate. Now, I do not expect that everyone should be an expert on all things that they believe; there are some things that I know to be true that I can not prove. I also feel like people can become overwhelmed with facts and statistics that it blinds them to the obvious. As Winston Churchill famously said, there are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies and statistics.

What I want to look at is how you can know if the person that you are talking with or perhaps even you are too crazy to debate. These rules will help you steer clear of unproductive debate and help you focus your own arguments.

Crazy Fact One: Those that oppose your view are not just wrong, they are evil

When the “E” word makes its way into the discussion, I know that this is about to go no where fast. I did not vote for Obama not because I think he is evil, I did not vote for him because historically big government has not been able to solve the kinds of problems that we face. I do not believe that Obama or anyone in the Democrat party wants evil for America, they are trying to solve a problem to the best of their ability.

This is also true for Republicans, when people say that they only care about the wealthy that is an over exaggeration. As Republicans we believe that if you try to stifle the job creating sector of our economy to “spread the wealth around” that it winds up hurting everyone. Only time will tell which group is right, but I can confidentially say that neither group wants to bring harm to the American population.

Crazy Fact Two: Only those that follow your view know “the truth”

More good people will fall into this category then the first, you can have a little bit of crazy fact two and not be crazy. But, too much of crazy fact two and you will be branded, too crazy to debate. This tends to come up most with people who believe in vast conspiracies. One of the tell tale signs that you have fallen victim to this world view is if you believe that everyone is out to get you. Generally speaking, the simplest answer is usually the correct one. If you are putting together groups of people who would naturally hate each other somehow working behind close doors then it possible that you are affected by crazy fact two.

Another way that you can know that you are victim of crazy fact two is if it seems like everyone one personally meet seems to agree with you. This is particularly difficult because it may reinforce the validity of your claims, however, the reason that they are agreeing with you is because they have to come to the conclusion that you are too crazy to debate and that is easier to say yes and then walk away.

Crazy Fact Three: Heavy reliance on “secret facts”

Michael Moore is a prime example of this, if George Bush was the type of tyrant that Moore describes then he would dead. Let me ask you a question, where were the Michael Moore’s when Hitler or Stalin where running their government? I highly doubt that Michael Moore has the moral courage it takes to really stand up to tyranny, if he came face to face with that kind of evil he would probably wobble to the nearest donut shop and eat himself into a diabetic coma.

Chances are, if the information was really secret you would not know it unless you have a job at the CIA, FBI, or NSA. If it is on the “Internet” and you have not checked it out on snopes.com then do not quote it or forward it until you do. Nothing screams out “Too Crazy to Debate” like quoting secret facts that are wrong.

Now, if you see that a person or you yourself have fallen victim to any one of these three traits or maybe all three of them, then it is quite possible that you are too crazy to debate.

I hope you sing it note for note
Don’t Worry, Vote Johnny

In the world there is some trouble
A young Obama could make it double
Don’t worry, vote Johnny, vote Johnny now

There might be nukes in Iran
And don’t forget the Taliban
So don’t worry, vote Johnny

Ooo-oo-hoo-hoo-oo hoo-hoo-oo-oo-ooo Don’t worry
Woo-oo-woo-oo-woo-oo-ooo Vote Johnny
Woo-oo-woo-oo-woo-oo-ooo Vote Johnny
Woo-oo-woo-oo-ooo Don’t worry, vote Johnny

I believe in “yes we can”
And Johnny has got a proven plan
But don’t worry, vote Johnny

I love the speeches I love the fun
Yet Obama is just too young
So don’t worry, vote Johnny, vote Johnny now

Ooo-oo-hoo-hoo-oo hoo-hoo-oo-oo-ooo Don’t worry
Woo-oo-woo-oo-woo-oo-ooo Vote Johnny
