I remember one cold Christmas break being pretty much glued to my living room floor. I was determined to be The Legend of Zelda. It was probably one of my first addictions…well after chocolate and red kool aid of course. I worked hard and learned how to find my way around the game. I took over a week, but eventually I won. Only Mario 3 managed to capture my attention in that same addictive way. That was until I found Paper Mario.
Yes this is not a new game, but I am new to modern gaming systems. I just received my Wii for Christmas. I only had the sports game, and that was fine with me. I had some company a few weeks ago, and we decided to rent a game. $9.25 later, we had Mario Paper for five days. Initially, I wanted to play the game because well I had spent $9.25 and I wanted to get my fair share of play out of it. Soon, it was like one of those old school Nintendo addictions.

I have been sucked in by technology again. I really should know better. Just about every time I decide that something is overrated and just isn’t for me, I end up eating my words. This time I have fallen victim to the Nintendo Wii.
When I was a kid, I loved my Nintendo. Of course in the summer, we were outside all day. In the winter, it wasn’t so easy. It was usually cold and there was only so much fun we could have in the snow. In the winter time we played Mario, Zelda, Tetris and any other game we could get our hands on. We later got a Sega, but after Sonic, I pretty much lost my love of video games.

A couple of weeks ago, EA games created a very successful marketing campaign for their new game, Spore. Spore Creature Creator is an application you can download for free and it gives you partial access to create your own Spore (creature). EA released the Creature Creator on June 16th, 2008 and they’ve had over one million creature created with one week’s time.
I’ve never been a gamer. That being said, I can say that EA’s Spore Creature Creator was a marketing campaign success. Why? Take people like me, for example. I like to blog, surf the net and get my social networking on. I don’t play games, but I couldn’t help but be interested after hearing several friends on Twitter talk about their newly created Spore. EA even held contests with “web celebs” such as iJustine, Phil DeFranco and Veronica Belmont to see whose Spore Creature Creator was the best creation. It generated tons of buzz.
