Let me tell you the ten most painful words I have ever said in my life, “I would like to vote in the Democratic Primary please”. The pain is still with me even today and not only is the pain in my heart there but they branded my voter registration card with the word Democrat on it. Me, Mr. Vast Right Wing Conspiracy stranded as Democrat, branded a fool, what will they say, Monday at school?
However, I must explain why I voted for Mrs. Clinton and it is not for the reason that many others had said I should. As many of you know I am a huge McCain fan, I loved him in 2000 and was heart broke when I thought his 2008 campaign was done last year. The reason that I choose to vote for Mrs. Clinton is not because I think she will be more beatable in November or because I want the fight to go on. The reason that I voted for her is because I felt like of the two Democrats that were in a competitive race she would make the better President if the Democratic candidate should win in November. While I like Barak Obama’s style and rhetoric more then the Clinton style, I believe that with the war, the threat of terrorism and a possible global recession, it is important to have someone who has been there before.
While I love hope and optimism as much as the next guy, I found myself saying not yes we can but rather, how will you? Let us assume for the moment that only the Democratic Party cares about the little guy and that Republicans care only about the rich. If it was possible for government to do all that Obama wanted why have very accomplished Democrats failed to do so? Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, LBJ, JFK, Harry Truman and FDR, if it was possible for government to be the answer these are men that I believe would have found a way to make it happen. Now, you can say that they were opposed by the powerful establishment that wants to keep the current system because it benefits them at the expense of everyone else, but then you are left asking, who are these evil people?
There is no group of THEY that are keeping things as they are all for the benefit of THEY at the expense of us. The reason that capitalism works is because people are selfish and mean and want to do things that will be better for them. I wish Communism and Socialism would work, I wish people as a whole would work for the greater good of humanity and not solely for the benefit of themselves. There is no THEY stopping the hopes and dreams that Barak Obama wants to bring, rather there are millions and millions of greedy little me first people who care primarily about number one and they will always be there no matter who is President. To me, Mr. Obama’s message is simply not believable and I felt like Mrs. Clinton would make more realistic choices as President.
There is a 50/50 chance that the next President could be a Democrat; I simply wanted to vote for the one that I thought was best. Afterwards I felt like Peter when he denied his Lord Jesus Christ three times before the roster crowed just as Jesus had said that he would. I not only voted for Hillary Clinton in the Texas Primary and then voted for her again in Texas Caucus, but for 2008 and 2009 in the state of Texas I am a registered Democrat. Like Peter, I wept bitterly.
However I got a moving phone call from John McCain himself, he said to me, “Michael son of James, do you love me more then Hillary?”
To which I replied, “Yes John, I love you more then Hillary.”
“Blog for me. Michael son of James, do you love me more then Hillary?”
“Of course I love you more then Hillary.”
“Volunteer for my campaign. Michael son of James, do you love me more then Hillary?”
At this I became sad because he asked me a third time, lowering my head I said, “John, you know all things, you know I love you more then Hillary.”
“Vote for me!”
Truly hilarious! I love the ending. But let’s be real: there is a 75% chance that the next President will be a Democrat. I’m not a Republican or a Democrat, personally, so I can say this without caring if it’s true.
I hate to tell you this, Michael, but a Democrat WILL be our next President. It’s unavoidable without a major scandal in the next six months.
I’ve listened to a few Republicans on radio and tv talk about how great their chances are, but we all know that this is the required and expected spin that a Republican MUST offer to keep the Republican masses confident.
But look at the actual world, and stop caring what the party analysts say. The U.S. wants a change. They are reacting to Bush, and they will swing Democrat if for no other reason than because they are so disappointed in and disenchanted with Bush.
There’s no debate. No Republican stood a chance before the primaries began. It’s a necessary exercise in futility. Obama vs. Hillary is getting so much attention because the winner WILL be our next President.
You don’t have to like it. But you SHOULD accept it.
If it was any other Republican then I would agree with you. In fact, I thought that the GOP would go with Mitt Romney and the it would take an Act of God for the GOP to win.
However, John McCain is different from the other types of Republicans. Also, in 1988 at this time Gov. Dukakas looked unbeatable against Vice Pres Bush. Obama will have his moment in the tank just like Mike did.
While you might be right about the out come, I hope the Democrats are that confident and like the New England Patriots blow it in the end. 19-0 looks pretty silly right now.
While I know that John McCain would be the best President for 2008, unlike other Republicans, I think both Clinton and Obama will bring strenghts to the White House and can be good Presidents.
With my fictional charater of Bob what I am trying to show is how every politian makes speechs that all sound the same. In my view, John McCain is the least Bob like of the three.
Good for you! I like your response. I hate it when people get all huffy and defensive when I state my opinion. It’s nice to discuss issues with people who are comfortable with their own opinions and beliefs and who can handle themselves in a debate.
I personally can’t stand McCain, but I won’t throw a fit if he wins. I’d like to see a younger, savvy, and eloquent Republican. When Reagan is the best public speaker the Republicans can muster in 20 years, it’s time for a change.
I like that you’re gung ho for McCain, though now I think you’re obligated to write us a post explaining why.

Because John McCain already had everything wraped up. Hillary is the devil that I know, Barak is the devil that I do not.
I dont know why, but when I come across blogs, I always migrate to the political pieces. I found this piece as my first to read, and felt compelled to say bravo. Do not get me wrong, I am in no way a McCain supporter, but I do mirror your thoughts that if my choice, Hillary, can not get president then I feel McCain is the second best option to get us (Americans) to where we need to be. I am just now worried about the VP choice, and feel that we as voters NEED to know who the running mates will be before deciding. Unfortunately for the republicans, there will be no other choice, regardless of running mate. But if Obama were to find a running mate that had the experience, he would be positioned better to have the American’s confidence in handling the mess he is getting into. Hillary, on the other hand, just needs a VP that is good at standing next to her, since I believe she has the ability to get us out of this mess better than Obama, even without a second ‘power’ in house next to her.
